Provisioning Notes

Enjoying the Cruise and Eating Well

Over the years leading multi-day sailing adventures, I have come to appreciate a great meal plan and a tight, yet flexible provisioning list as much or even more than good sail trim, adjusting to the weather, and picking just the right spot in the anchorage.

When it comes to the meal plan and provisioning for Sea of Cortez trips, we’ve had both minor disasters and major successes, and we have learned a ton along the way.  As an instructor I always lean toward the lessons – what did we learn and how can I pass that along for the benefit of other sailing adventurers.  And so, that’s what I have for you here.

Provisioning Notes

Click the link above to download a PDF of provisioning notes that result from years of experience running trips from La Paz.  We cover where to shop, water, ordering ahead with the DYC provisioning list, what’s on the boat, taxiing to town, and more.
Click the link above to download the excel file of the provisioning list you can use to pre-order the bulky, heavy, and shelf stable items you need.  They will be waiting for you at the DYC base at the marina, and that can make your provisioning trip to town a lot easier and faster.
When you complete this, email it to Javier Padilla: javier@dreamyachtcharter.com
Thoughts on Fresh Fish
Buying fresh fish in the islands is not always an option, so don’t count on it in your meal plan.  When fish is available, it can be a fantastic addition. I’ve learned to buy an extra bag of limes to have on hand just in case we are able to make ceviche.
