NauticEd International Sailing License & Credentials SLC

Get your International Sailing License (SLC)

Accepted by Port Authorities in the Mediterranean and Worldwide

Are you thinking about sailing vacation in the Mediterranean? You need the SLC International Sailing License, accepted as proof of competency by all port authorities and yacht charter companies operating in the Mediterranean.

We Can Help You Gain the SLC

Santana Sailing is authorized to provide the practical training and assessment required to gain the SLC.  Marc Hughston, an accomplished sailor and professional instructor, will be your assessor. On-the-water training and assessment is conducted in La Paz, BCS MX, and here are the options to choose from depending on your skills and experience.

  • 1 or 2-day training and assessment in the Bahia de La Paz.
  • 5-day intensive liveaboard Sailing Adventure on the Sea of Cortez.
  • 7-day catamaran (or monohull) Sailing Adventure on the Sea of Cortez.

Qualifications and Process to Gain the SLC

Gaining the SLC is a straightforward process that requires completion of online courses and tests, a government issued boater license, practical sailing experience, an on-the-water assessment, an optional catamaran endorsement, and the payment of fees for all of the above.

Are You Ready?

Preparatory training for the assessment is not required and does not guarantee a pass, but most sailors find the preparatory training extremely valuable. Here are the skills that SLC candidates find the most challenging.

  1. Med-mooring while deploying the anchor in a cross wind.
  2. Sail up to secure a mooring (no engine).
  3. Perform a crew overboard rescue without coaching.
  4. Spring onto or off of a fuel dock in unfavorable wind conditions.

If you are unsure of whether you can demonstrate the above skills competently, you should either complete a day of preparatory training, or join us on a 5-day or 7-day training and certification cruise.

SLC Training and Assessment Options

1. SLC Training and Assessment in La Paz, 1 or 2 days

If you have the prerequisite experience and have completed the required knowledge and theory training, then you can request a Practical Assessment. Expect 1 day for the assessment, and if you need some additional training (or are rusty) then you can add a day of practical training and preparation.

  • One Day Assessment: complete a one day on-the-water assessment in the Bahia de La Paz on a date we’ll arrange with you. This is a pass/fail demonstration of your skills, without coaching.
Pricing: $650 USD per SLC candidate.
  • Two Day Training and Assessment: Complete back to back training and assessment days on-the-water, on dates we’ll work out with you.
Pricing: $1,200 USD per SLC candidate.
